The second stage of the Beach Wrestling World Series held in Poreč, Croatia, has concluded.
In the two-day tournament, Azerbaijan was represented by two wrestlers under the leadership of head coach Oyan Nezeriani.
Yesterday, Vusal Aliyev (80 kg), who secured two victories in Group B, defeated American Roderick Law 4:0 in his final group match today. Advancing to the semifinals as the group leader, Aliyev was defeated by Ukrainian Vasyl Mykhailov — 0:2. In the bronze medal match, Vusal faced Law again and achieved a swift 3:0 victory in just 13 seconds, claiming third place on the podium in his debut tournament.
Three-time world champion Ibrahim Yusubov (90 kg) also completed the group stage with a perfect record. After earning two wins yesterday in Group A, our compatriot overpowered Iran’s Saeed Largani 5:2 in the final round. Advancing as the group leader, Yusubov left no chance for Ukrainian Nazar Doda in the semifinals — 3:0. In the final, Ibrahim faced another Ukrainian, Oleksii Yakovchuk. In a tense and competitive bout, our experienced wrestler defeated his opponent 3:2, securing the highest spot on the podium.
The third stage of the World Series will be held on September 6–7 in Casablanca, Morocco.
