Azerbaijan presents its wines in Norwegian and Swedish markets

Azerbaijani wines are now gaining broader exposure and market presence in Scandinavia, particularly in Norway and Sweden, through NORAS Vinimport AS.

The company, co-founded by Azerbaijani-born exporter Orkhan Hasanli and Norwegian partner Cecilie Hassing, is currently one of the leading promoters of Azerbaijani wines in the European market.

Cecilie Hassing has collaborated with Azerbaijan for many years, visiting winemaking regions such as Gabala, Shamakhi, Goygol, Baku, and others to establish connections with the local wine sector. Her deep interest in Azerbaijani culture and products has significantly contributed to strengthening this partnership. Orkhan Hasanli warmly refers to Cecilie as an “Azerbaijani lover.”

Initially, Azerbaijani wine exports to Norway began with two varieties from the "Meysari" winery – "Sadaf" and "Makhmari." Currently, 14 varieties of Azerbaijani wine are available through Norway's official alcohol sales network, "Vinmonopolet." The number is expected to rise to 28 by the end of June.

Efforts are also underway to introduce Azerbaijani wines to the Swedish market. The "Madrasa" and "Bayan Shira" wines produced by "Chabiant," as well as "Savalan" wines, are expected to be available soon through Sweden's official alcohol retail chain, “Systembolaget”.

Organizers note a growing interest in Azerbaijani wines in Scandinavian countries, driven by their high quality, the use of local grape varieties, and Azerbaijan’s distinctive winemaking traditions. In Norway, strong demand has led to depleted warehouse stocks due to rising sales volumes.

NORAS Vinimport AS aims to introduce 28 varieties of Azerbaijani wine to the Swedish market, mirroring its strategy in Norway. Additionally, the company has recently launched a new sparkling wine brand, “Gaupe,” in the Norwegian market. Produced at the “Goygol” winery from 100 percent Chardonnay grapes, the brand will be further promoted through upcoming marketing campaigns.

Economy
