Nakhchivan hosts conference on “Global Information Environment and Media Trends” – “MEDIAFEST-2025”

The Heydar Aliyev Palace in Nakhchivan hosted Friday a conference on “Global Information Environment and Media Trends” – “MEDIAFEST-2025”.

“MEDIAFEST-2025” was organized as per the order signed by President Ilham Aliyev “On the Celebration of the 150th Anniversary of the National Press in Azerbaijan.”

The conference was initiated by the Office of the Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and co-organized by the Media Development Agency, the Press Council, and the Sharq Qapisi official newspaper of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

The event began with participants paying tribute to National Leader Heydar Aliyev, laying flowers at his monument.

As part of the conference, Nakhchivan TV launched its satellite broadcasting on the "Azerspace-1" satellite.

The event was attended by Fuad Najafli, Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of Azerbaijan in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic; Ahmad Ismayilov, Executive Director of the Media Development Agency of Azerbaijan; Ismat Sattarov, Chairman of the Audiovisual Council; Rashad Majid, Chairman of the Press Council; along with prominent media representatives and official guests.

 

In accordance with the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated August 15, 2024, Nakhchivan TV was officially granted a license to broadcast on the satellite platform.

The event also featured screening of the video, highlighting the history and modern development of Azerbaijani national press.

Addressing the event, Fuad Najafli, Plenipotentiary Representative of Azerbaijani President in Nakhchivan, congratulated the participants on the 150th anniversary of the Azerbaijani national press, underscoring National Leader Heydar Aliyev’s significant contributions to the development of Azerbaijani press, following his second stint as the leader of the country.

He added that the Order of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on wide celebration of the 150th anniversary of Azerbaijan's National Press dated April 25, 2025, is a clear manifestation of state care to the development of media in the country.

 

In his remarks, Ahmad Ismayilov, Executive Director of the Media Development Agency, described the conference as of great practical importance for Azerbaijani press, also highlighting the influence of global media landscape to developing media trends.

Kamran Hasanov, Head of the Media Sector of the Department for Work with NGOs and Communication of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Azerbaijan, pointed out the crucial efforts undertaken by the Nakhchivani media over the recent years, aimed at social-economic development and promoting cultural heritage of Nakhchivan, as well as integration into Azerbaijan’s common media strategy.

In his remarks, Rashad Majid, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Press Council, described the Order of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on wide celebration of the 150th anniversary of Azerbaijan's National Press as a clear example of state care to the development of media in the country.

 

The event then featured video congratulatory messages from foreign officials and heads of various media institutions on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Azerbaijan’s national press, including Fahrettin Altun, Director of Communications of the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye, Serdar Karagoz, Director General of Anadolu Agency, Carlo Marino, member of the European News Agency, and others.

The conference proceeded with a panel discussion on combatting disinformation and fake news, moderated by Vafa Aslan, with head of Nakhchivan Regional Office of the Media Development Agency, with Gulu Maharramli, Professor at the Baku State University; Rufat Hamzayev, Executive Director of the AnewZ TV-channel; Elshad Eyvazli, Member of the Board of Azerbaijan’s Media Council; and Ramzi Ibrahimov, head of the Press and Public Relations Sector of the Supreme Assembly Apparatus of the Nakhchivan AR among the speakers.
