“The Azerbaijani people honor the memory of all the heroes who fell for the Motherland, land and justice on Ashura (the 10th day of the first month of Muharram on the Islamic calendar),” said Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazade, Chairman of Caucasus Muslims Office, during the blood donation campaign.
Emphasizing that the idea of organizing blood donation campaigns during Ashura ceremonies in Azerbaijan is attributed to the National Leader Heydar Aliyev, Sheikhulislam added: "Previously, some radical groups turned this day into a topic of misuse. At the initiative of the National Leader, this issue has been handled effectively - whoever wants to donate blood on this occasion, let him save a life with this blood. This initiative has become a stable and humane tradition in Azerbaijan today."
