Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov delivered a speech at the extraordinary meeting held as part of the 51st Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul.

In his remarks, Minister Bayramov expressed deep concern over the sharp deterioration of the security situation in the Middle East resulting from the Israel–Iran confrontation. He emphasized that the current escalation poses a serious threat to civilian lives, as well as to regional and international stability, and is therefore unacceptable.

The minister highlighted that damage to civilian and nuclear infrastructure in Iran - a country with which Azerbaijan shares close ethnic and cultural ties, as well as neighborly relations based on international law, particularly the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and inviolability of borders - is of particular concern. He noted that such developments pose a serious threat to both the civilian population and the environment across the region.

Minister Bayramov stressed the importance of refraining from actions that could further escalate the situation.

He called for the prevention of another prolonged armed confrontation in a region already suffering from multiple conflicts and crises, the immediate cessation of all military operations, and the restoration of a diplomatic process grounded in the norms and principles of international law.
