An article by Akkan Suver, President of the Marmara Group Strategic and Social Research Foundation, discussing the Washington Summit and the prospects of the Zangezur Corridor, was published in Türkiye’s “Gözlem” newspaper, which focuses on economic and political issues.

The article highlights the peace process initiated by Azerbaijan after it rightfully reclaimed its territories, which had been under Armenian occupation for over thirty years. “This is a great success. The signatures exchanged and witnessed by the U.S. President have outlined a roadmap for lasting peace in the eyes of the entire world. I consider this highly significant because fostering the start of peace is a hope for the future of humanity. Achieving this hope was not easy. However, President Ilham Aliyev accomplished it. Of course, I also congratulate Nikol Pashinyan, who shares in this success,” said Professor Suver. He emphasized the importance of the Zangezur Corridor, a key provision of the Peace Agreement, not only for the region but also globally. He stated: “The Zangezur Corridor will serve as a lifeline between Türkiye and Azerbaijan. At the same time, it will create a pathway from Central Asia and the Far East to Europe via Azerbaijan. This will also allow Nakhchivan to breathe. Undoubtedly, economic and social development will follow. Other countries have no choice but to respect the agreement reached between Azerbaijan and Armenia on their own terms and territories.”

The article also highlights the assessment of Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on the matter. Addressing some unwarranted opinions about the new corridor, the article notes: “Alongside all this, evaluating the Zangezur Corridor, or its new name, the ‘Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity’ (TRIPP), merely as a means to shorten trade routes is not entirely correct. This corridor will connect Nakhchivan to Azerbaijan and, more importantly, unite the Turkic world. This is a great, indeed a monumental, success. Our role now is to applaud and congratulate those who made this success possible. The rest is just empty talk.”
