Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Parliament Sahiba Gafarova met with Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, during her working visit to Malaysia.
The meeting highlighted the significance of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations as an international parliamentary platform and underscored the importance of collaboration within this organization. They described Azerbaijan and Cambodia as friendly states.
Speaker Sahiba Gafarova emphasized the importance of parliamentary diplomacy and, in this context, the further deepening of interparliamentary ties. She recalled her official visit to Cambodia and the meetings held there, stressing the significance of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Milli Majlis and the Chamber of Representatives of Cambodia.
The sides praised the reciprocal visits of MPs and the participation of representatives from both countries in events organized in Azerbaijan and Cambodia.
Khuon Sudary expressed her country’s interest in continuing the development of political, economic, trade, investment, and other areas of cooperation with Azerbaijan. She also commended Speaker Gafarova’s participation in AIPA and their meeting within the Assembly.
During the meeting, the two speakers also discussed cooperation within international parliamentary organizations. Sahiba Gafarova welcomed the active participation of the Cambodian Parliament in the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement, established at the initiative of the President of Azerbaijan.
The President of the National Assembly of Cambodia highly appreciated Azerbaijan’s work during its chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement, as well as the activities of the Parliamentary Network. The meeting also addressed other issues of mutual interest.
