Arab Parliament President: Arab World places great emphasis on relations with Azerbaijan

Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, met with Mohamed Ahmed Alyammahi, President of the Arab Parliament, who is on an official visit to the country, on February 11.

Speaker Gafarova welcomed the Arab Parliament President’s first visit to Azerbaijan, expressing confidence that it would contribute to further development of relations between the Milli Majlis and the Arab Parliament. She highlighted the successful development of Azerbaijan’s ties with Arab countries, rooted in shared history, religious and spiritual values, and mutual respect.

The meeting also underscored Azerbaijan’s active role in strengthening Islamic solidarity, combating Islamophobia, supporting initiatives within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), as well as the 20 years of cooperation with the League of Arab States, including President Ilham Aliyev’s participation in the Arab League Summit in 2022.

Gafarova noted the rapidly developing relations between the Arab Parliament and the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network (NAM PA), established at the initiative of President Aliyev and currently chaired by Azerbaijan.

Mohamed Ahmed Alyammahi praised President Aliyev’s efforts to ensure peace in the region, noting that the Arab World places great emphasis on relations with Azerbaijan and is keen to expand cooperation in trade, energy, and logistics. He also expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan for its support on the Palestine issue.

The Arab Parliament President described bilateral interparliamentary ties as having entered a new phase and called the collaboration with the Milli Majlis and the NAM PA a solid foundation for expanding dialogue. He invited Speaker Gafarova to attend the plenary session of the Arab Parliament.

During his visit, the Arab Parliament President was briefed on Azerbaijan’s history, development path, and the Milli Majlis, and signed the guest book.
