On the occasion of the holy Eid al-Adha, a charity campaign was organized on June 7–8 in the heavily affected regions of Rural Damascus, Homs, and surrounding areas under the slogan “The most sincere greetings from the Azerbaijani people to the brotherly Syrian people,” the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Syrian Arab Republic told AZERTAC.

Initiated and organized by the Embassy and supported by the Azerbaijan International Development Agency (AIDA), the campaign involved the distribution of sacrificial meat to 320 families affected by the war. The initiative was further supported by Syria’s “Hayat” Foundation and the volunteer groups “Sawaidul Ihsan” (Charitable Hands) and “Basmat Hayat” (Life Smile).

On the first day, the campaign reached Arab, Turkmen, Circassian, and Alawite families in the Western and Eastern Ghouta districts of Rural Damascus. On the second day, it continued in Homs and nearby areas. Most of the beneficiaries were widowed mothers with multiple children who lost their husbands during Syria’s prolonged civil war. In total, approximately 1,500 people benefited from the two-day distribution.

The families expressed deep gratitude to the Azerbaijani people and state, extending their heartfelt wishes in return.

In line with the directives of President Ilham Aliyev, humanitarian aid initiatives by Azerbaijan for the Syrian population are set to continue.

At the end of last year, 200 tons of humanitarian aid were sent to Syria by Azerbaijan. Additionally, with support from AIDA and coordination by the Azerbaijani Embassy in Syria, iftar meals were provided for 1,000 orphaned children in Damascus from March 25 to 27 this year.
