ADY, Georgian Railway strengthen cooperation: BTK at forefront
In Baku, Rovshan Rustamov, Chairman of “Azerbaijan Railways” CJSC (ADY), a company of AZCON Holding, held a meeting with Lasha Abashidze, the newly appointed General Director of “Georgian Railway” JSC.
The discussions centered on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the development of the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars (BTK) railway line, with particular emphasis on the modernization of the Georgian segment and the line’s growing strategic importance as a critical component of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, also known as the Middle Corridor.
Both sides underscored the need to enhance operational efficiency and attract new freight volumes to the corridor, whose annual capacity has recently been expanded to 5 million tons. In this context, the parties exchanged views on reinforcing the activities of the joint venture “BTKI Railways” LLC to support more streamlined and coordinated cargo operations.
The meeting also reviewed progress on the implementation of the bilateral roadmap signed in June 2025, which aims to elevate railway cooperation between the two countries. It was noted that Azerbaijani and Georgian railway experts are actively engaged in structured and constructive data exchange to align operational workflows and optimize cross-border coordination.
The parties agreed that closer engagement both through dedicated working groups and regular direct consultations will further strengthen collaboration and ensure the efficient organization of freight flows along the East–West–East axis.
In addition, the meeting addressed key digitalization initiatives to be implemented by the end of the year, including the introduction of a paperless documentation system and the deployment of the “Track and Trace” cargo monitoring platform across the Middle Corridor.
