Azerbaijan to open fishing season from Sept. 1

The fishing season in Azerbaijan is declared open from September 1, Report informs, citing the Ministry of Agriculture.

According to the information, based on the Rules for Fishing and Other Aquatic Bioresources approved by the Cabinet of Ministers' decision, the moratorium on industrial fishing and harvesting of other aquatic bioresources in the Kura River, Sarisu Lake, Mingachevir, Shamkir, Araz, and Yenikand reservoirs due to the spawning period ends on September 1.

To prevent illegal fishing, employees of the ministry's Fisheries and Aquaculture Center and the Water Transport Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs regularly carry out monitoring activities in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea and in the country's inland water bodies. Persons, violating fishing rules, including illegal fishing, are held liable in accordance with the Code of Administrative Offenses and the Criminal Code.

"The Fisheries and Aquaculture Center calls on all individuals and legal entities engaged in fishing to comply with the rules, to refrain from fishing during prohibited times and with prohibited equipment, and also urges citizens without appropriate fishing permits not to engage in fishing in water bodies. We invite citizens to report cases of illegal fishing they encounter in water bodies to the Fisheries and Aquaculture Center, as well as to the Water Transport Police Department, and to support the protection of fish resources," the statement reads.
