Baku and Turkmenbashi ports expand cooperation to boost regional transportation
A meeting was held at the Baku International Sea Port between Rovshan Rustamov, Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC (ADY), a company within AZCON Holding, and Nokerguly Atagulyyev, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan.
The Turkmen delegation was provided with detailed information about the Port of Baku, including the work carried out following its integration into ADY and the port’s role in multimodal transportation along the Middle Corridor.
It was noted that last year the port handled a record volume of cargo—over 100,000 TEU containers—made possible by Azerbaijan’s significant investments in transport infrastructure.
During bilateral discussions, the parties exchanged views on improving infrastructure at the Turkmenbashi International Sea Port, including seabed deepening, as well as increasing cargo transportation through the port.
The sides emphasized the importance of digital data exchange to ensure coordinated operations between the railways and international seaports of the two countries.
They also highlighted potential measures to expand cooperation in multimodal transport within the framework of the Middle Corridor and the Eurasian Transport Route, as well as to increase cargo flow in the East–West–East direction.
