The annual meeting of heads of diplomatic missions of African states in Kenya, organized by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), was held on May 9 in Mombasa.
Sultan Hajiyev, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Kenya, attended the meeting as a special guest, as well as joined a meeting on the 13th session of the UN World Urban Forum (WUF13), which Azerbaijan will host in Baku on May 18-22, 2026.
Addressing over 60 high-ranking officials and African diplomats, Ambassador Hajiyev provided insight into the preparations for the WUF13, highlighting Azerbaijan’s global objectives and priorities. The diplomat drew attention to the significance of the “MAP” initiative (Multisectoral Action Pathways to Resilient and Healthy Cities) launched within the framework of Azerbaijan’s COP29 Presidency, as well as the important aspects of the Baku Sustainability Coalition to foster multilateral cooperation in ensuring synergy between the COP and WUF platforms.
The meeting featured a video presentation promoting WUF13 and a video highlighting the achievements of modern Azerbaijan, the outcomes of the glorious Victory of 2020, the large-scale restoration and reconstruction efforts carried out in line with innovative urban development trends in the post-conflict period at the expense of national resources, and the “Great Return” program.
The event participants were also informed about the human casualties caused by mines planted in the liberated territories, as well as humanitarian mine action.
The participants of the annual meeting also joined a reception arranged on behalf of the host of WUF13.
