Azerbaijan and Bulgaria discuss cooperation in insurance-pension systems and social security

A delegation from Azerbaijan’s State Social Protection Fund (SSPF) met with Vesela Karaivanova-Nacheva, Governor of Bulgaria’s National Social Security Institute (NSSI), in Sofia.

During the meeting, Deputy Chairperson of the SSPF’s Board, Matin Asgar, provided detailed information on reforms implemented in Azerbaijan’s social insurance and social security sectors in recent years. He highlighted innovative approaches, proactive services provided to the population, and key priorities established in the insurance-pension and social security systems.

Vesela Karaivanova-Nacheva shared insights on reforms in Bulgaria’s social security sector and expressed interest in studying Azerbaijan’s experience in applying innovative approaches to pension systems.

Within the framework of the meeting, an Action Plan for 2025-2026 was signed to implement the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between the SSPF and NSSI, originally signed in Baku last year.

Presentations on the pension-insurance systems of both Azerbaijan and Bulgaria followed. Similarities and differences in the social security systems of the two countries were discussed, and an exchange of views took place on topics of mutual interest.
