On February 5, the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum hosted the opening of the “Silent Prayers: Cultural Heritage Preserved at the Zira Juma Mosque” exhibition.
The event was attended by MPs, ambassadors from foreign countries, and prominent figures of culture and art.
Amina Melikova, Director of the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum; Polad Bulbuloghlu, Member of the Milli Majlis and Chairman of the Culture Committee of the Milli Majlis; Gunay Afandiyeva, MP and Deputy Chair of the Culture Committee of the Milli Majlis; Elshan Salahov, Head of the Executive Authority of the Khazar District; and Haji Gadir Najafov, Chairman of the Religious Community of Zira Juma Mosque delivered speeches at the event.
The speakers emphasized that the exhibition holds significant importance in terms of preserving the national and spiritual heritage, maintaining historical memory, continuing traditions of philanthropy, and transmitting cultural values to future generations.
As part of the event, the short film “The Legacy of History”, dedicated to the Zira Juma Mosque and directed by Mubariz Naghiyev, was screened.
The Zafar mugham group performed national music, and the dance ensemble Sama from the Shuvalan Settlement Cultural Center presented the Azerbaijan Suite and the Gaytaghi Suite.
Afterwards, the guests had the opportunity to tour the exhibition, which showcases the samples of national heritage donated to the Zira Juma Mosque by different people in different periods.
The exhibition features pile and flat-woven carpets, carpet products, artistic metalwork, clothing, embroidery samples, Quran samples, and rare handwritten books. Most of these exhibits are more than 100 years old and were created by Azerbaijani masters. The presented examples of historical and cultural heritage are not only relics of the past but are also regarded as clear indicators of Azerbaijan’s strong attention to national values, the ideals of humanism, and social solidarity.
The exhibition, organized by the Culture Committee of the National Assembly, the Ministry of Culture, and the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum, is aimed at promoting national, spiritual, and cultural values, historical memory, and charity traditions.
The exhibition will run until February 8.
