On June 22, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov met with Abdisalam Abdi Ali, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia, on the sidelines of the 51st Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul.
The meeting focused on prospects for strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation, future steps in this direction, and the current regional situation.
The ministers welcomed the development of political relations between Azerbaijan and Somalia and emphasized the importance of intensifying political dialogue, expanding trade and economic ties, and deepening cooperation in areas such as agriculture, green energy, humanitarian assistance, and education.
Minister Bayramov commended Somalia’s active engagement within the frameworks of the OIC, the Non-Aligned Movement, and the United Nations, underscoring the importance of mutual support to strengthen unity within the Islamic world.
The sides highlighted Somalia’s participation in Azerbaijan’s humanitarian and development initiatives, including educational grant programs. Somalia’s interest in benefiting from Azerbaijan’s “ASAN Khidmet” model was also positively noted.
The meeting concluded with an exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest.
