The opening ceremony of the Standing Committee on Economic and Sustainable Development of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) was held in Manama, the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Milli Majlis deputy Rizvan Nabiyev participated as the APA President’s representative and head of Azerbaijan’s delegation. Speeches were delivered by Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Chairman of the Council of Representatives of the Kingdom of Bahrain; APA Vice-President and Chairman of the Standing Committee Ahmed Sabah Al Salloum; and APA Secretary General Mohammad Reza Majidi.
Addressing the event, Rizvan Nabiyev highlighted President Ilham Aliyevs peace agenda, the historic Washington agreements, and the completion of the OSCE Minsk process. He underlined that this decision is a confirmation of the restoration of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty at the OSCE level, as well as proof of the end of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict. However, the removal of the territorial claims against Azerbaijan enshrined in the Armenian constitution is necessary for signing a peace agreement.
Speaking about the importance of the Washington peace summit, the MP noted that the Joint Declaration signed at the summit regarding the Zangezur Corridor (TRIPP) - a transport link, which will seamlessly connect the main part of Azerbaijan with the Nakhchivan enclave - will make a significant contribution to peace, development of economic and trade relations, and multilateral cooperation.
Rizvan Nabiyev also noted that the global challenges of the modern era - armed conflicts, humanitarian crises, and the effects of climate change - require states to prioritize multilateral cooperation. In this context, he described the supply of Azerbaijani gas to Syria via Türkiye as an example of cooperation and Islamic solidarity among OIC member states.
APA is a unique dialogue platform uniting the parliaments of 44 Asian member states. The Milli Majlis has chaired the organization since 2024. In January 2026, the APA Presidency will pass from Azerbaijan to Bahrain.
