“The difficulties and historical trials Azerbaijan experienced in the 20th century have strengthened the national will of the people,” said former U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan Matthew Bryza in his online address to the scientific-practical conference on “Restoration of the Territorial Integrity and Sovereignty of Azerbaijan: International Legal Aspects.”

He noted that Azerbaijan, which regained its independence in 1991, has strengthened its sovereignty by rebuilding its state institutions.

“Your country has strengthened its stance on the international stage by establishing strategic partnerships in the economic and social spheres. The projects implemented by Azerbaijan in the energy, infrastructure and education sectors constitute the main pillars of national development. Your country also takes important steps towards ensuring stability, cooperation and the principles of the rule of law in the region,” the former ambassador emphasized, adding that the liberation of Karabakh from occupation in 2020 and the operations carried out in 2023 are clear evidence of the assertion of Azerbaijan’s sovereignty.

“This Victory is the result of the unity of the people, political will and the rule of law. Azerbaijan continues its development path based on respect for human rights and the rule of law, both domestically and internationally. This is an example for other states and shows that with firm will and a solid legal foundation, you can overcome any difficulties,” Matthew Bryza stressed.
