Azerbaijani Ambassador presents his credentials to Iraqi President

On January 22, Eldar Salimov, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Iraq, presented his credentials to the country’s President, Abdullatif Jamal Rashid.

Ambassador Salimov extended the greetings of President Ilham Aliyev to the Iraqi President.

President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid requested the ambassador to convey his greetings and best wishes to President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva.

The Iraqi President expressed his country’s willingness to further strengthen the historically established strong ties with Azerbaijan across various domains.

Recalling with satisfaction his previous visits to Azerbaijan, the Iraqi President also touched upon the development of economic and trade ties between the two countries, underscoring the importance of flights operating since 2025 on the Baghdad–Baku route by AZAL and Iraqi Airways, and stressing the need to establish direct air links between other cities in both countries.

Ambassador Salimov emphasized the significance of further developing the historically established relations between the two countries in different areas. Highlighting the rapidly developing bilateral relations, the diplomat noted that the official visit of the Iraqi President to Azerbaijan on November 20–21, 2023, had opened a new chapter in the history of bilateral relations, adding that high-level reciprocal visits contribute significantly to the development of these ties.

The meeting also addressed other issues on the bilateral and regional cooperation agenda between the two countries.
