Azerbaijan, Türkiye discuss ways to deepen cooperation in education

On January 21, Azerbaijani Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev met with Turkish Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin in Ankara.

The Azerbaijani Minister noted that the meeting focused on ways to deepen cooperation between the two brotherly countries in the field of education, including secondary and vocational education.

“Azerbaijan will establish new vocational education institutions in accordance with the Decree of President Ilham Aliyev. During the meeting with the Turkish Minister, we discussed the training of pedagogical personnel, the exchange of curricula in the vocational education system, and their adaptation to the requirements of Azerbaijan,” Minister Amrullayev wrote on his official X account.

According to him, one of the discussion points was the establishment of cooperation between schools built in the Garabagh region under the “Great Return” program and educational institutions in Türkiye.

The agenda also included the opening of a school in Istanbul that will operate according to the Azerbaijani education system. Noting that the land for the school was allocated by the Turkish authorities, Minister Amrullayev added: “The opening of this school is expected in September of this year.”

The Azerbaijani Minister emphasized the importance of the Memorandum on Cooperation between Garabagh University and Istanbul Technical University. According to the Memorandum, the educational process in engineering specialties is planned to begin in Khankendi from the next academic year. “Academic exchanges will be carried out. This agreement will be a positive step for both Garabagh University and the education system of Azerbaijan as a whole,” he said.

The minister also stated that the talks in Ankara included discussions on deepening cooperation with leading higher education institutions, including Ankara University and Hacettepe University.
