Speaker of Azerbaijan`s Milli Majlis meets with Georgian counterpart in Istanbul

Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, met with Shalva Papuashvili, Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, on the margins of the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Istanbul.

During the meeting, Shalva Papuashvili presented the Georgian Parliament's "Honor" medal to the Speaker of the Milli Majlis.

He noted that the Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament was presented with this highest honor for her contribution to the development of inter-parliamentary relations, as well as to the further strengthening of friendship between the two peoples. Shalva Papuashvili emphasized that Sahiba Gafarova is the first parliament speaker to receive this medal.

During the conversation, the sides hailed high-level inter-parliamentary cooperation, adding that legislative authorities successfully cooperate both on a bilateral basis and within the framework of various international organizations.

The two emphasized that inter-parliamentary cooperation is one of the pivotal areas of both bilateral and multilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia, noting that effective mechanisms of collaboration have been formed in this area.

The parties underlined that, along with friendship groups, the parliamentary committees also enjoy fruitful cooperation.

The meeting also focused on the mutual support and coordinated activities of Azerbaijani and Georgian parliamentarians within international platforms.
