The Azerbaijani national freestyle wrestling team has added 2 gold and 1 bronze medal to its tally at the U-17 European Wrestling Championship in Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia.
Champions were determined today in five weight categories, with Azerbaijani wrestlers making a strong showing on the international stage.
Ravan Hasanazade claimed the first gold medal in the 48 kg category, defeating Armenia’s Artak Aghabekyan with an impressive 4:0 victory in the final.
The second gold came from Ruslan Alizade in the 55 kg division. In a tightly contested final against Russia’s Makhach Abdullayev, Alizade edged out his opponent with a narrow 3:2 win to stand atop the podium.
Meanwhile, in the 65 kg category, Tunar Nasibov earned a fall victory over Georgia’s Saba Tkemaladze in the consolation round but narrowly missed out on a medal after a 2:4 loss to Turkiye’s Ismail Mertkollu in the bronze medal match.
Azerbaijan secured its final medal of the day in the 110 kg weight class, where Hakim Taghiyev defeated Hungary’s Gyoergi Juhas 2:0 to claim bronze.
