Anar Karimov, Azerbaijan’s First Deputy Minister of Finance, met with a delegation led by Nino Tchelishvili, Senior Economist of the Fiscal Affairs Department at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), who is on a visit to the country.
The sides discussed the existing frameworks for monitoring and accountability of public enterprises, reforms in this area, as well as improving institutional mechanisms and managing fiscal risks.
They also exchanged views on the institutional activities of the Monitoring Agency of State Enterprises under the Ministry of Finance, efforts on monitoring public enterprises and assessing fiscal impacts, as well as use of advanced international practices in the monitoring process.
Anar Karimov noted that the reforms in recent years in the field of public enterprise monitoring have contributed significantly to strengthening the level of transparency and accountability, adding that further improvement of the institutional framework and effective management of fiscal risks remain priorities in this regard.
Nino Tchelishvili stressed the importance of applying stress tests to assess the performance of state-owned enterprises, bolstering institutional capacity, and developing technical cooperation.
She also shared her thoughts on expectations and prospects for future cooperation within the mission.
As part of the visit, the delegation will also hold meetings at the Ministry of Finance and other public institutions, discussing the activities of public enterprises, management practices, and ongoing reforms.
