“I believe that as an active member of the GlobE network, Azerbaijan will continue to achieve remarkable results in further strengthening the fight against corruption. As the UN, we will continue to support the Government of Azerbaijan in such an important endeavor,” said Vladanka Andreeva, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan, as she addressed the opening ceremony of the Sixth plenary meeting of the United Nations Global Operational Network of Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Authorities (GlobE Network) in Baku.
“Azerbaijan is a state party to the UN Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) and is represented in all its mechanisms. That is, Azerbaijan is participating in this mechanism as both a state party under review and a reviewing state,” the UN Resident Coordinator noted.
“With just 5 years remaining to implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, we must all take action to ensure sustainable and green growth. Whether it's eradicating poverty, reducing inequality, and protecting our planet, corruption is a threat to every step of sustainable development, which undermines economies, weakens institutions, and disproportionately affects the most vulnerable. We should try to leverage the tools provided by the global network, as the UN Convention Against Corruption is the only legally binding international ani-corruption document,” she emphasized.
