The 21st Extraordinary Session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers kicked off in Jeddah on Monday. The foreign ministers and senior officials from OIC member states will deliberate on coordinated responses to the escalating developments in Palestine, arising from the ongoing Israeli military aggression, proposed plans for full military control over Gaza, and the continuing egregious violations of Palestinian rights.

The Secretary-General of the OIC, Hissein Brahim Taha, and the foreign ministers of the member states are attending the meeting in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The extraordinary session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers is being chaired by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, as Türkiye currently holds the rotating presidency of the Council.

According to Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar has arrived in Saudi Arabia to participate in the 21st Extraordinary Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers.

Earlier, a Senior Officials’ Preparatory Meeting for the 21st Extraordinary Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers was held at the headquarters of the OIC General Secretariat in Jeddah to consider the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people. The meeting was opened by Dr. Nuh Yilmaz, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye, who welcomed the representatives of the participating member states.

In his address, he emphasized that this extraordinary session would address the unprecedented humanitarian tragedy, the continuation of state terrorism and settler violence in the West Bank, and the deteriorating situation in Al-Quds. He added that the current developments require urgent action and intervention by OIC member states.

The OIC is the second-largest intergovernmental organization after the United Nations. The extraordinary session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Jeddah on August 25–26 will bring together foreign ministers from member states to deliberate on coordinated responses to the escalating developments in Palestine. Israel has killed more than 62,000 Palestinians in its brutal onslaught on Gaza since October 2023. The military campaign has devastated Gaza, which is currently facing famine.
