Sultan Hajiyev, Azerbaijani ambassador to Kenya, met with Amason Kingi Jeffah, the speaker of the Kenyan Senate.

Ambassador Sultan Hajiyev spoke about the dynamic development of relations between Azerbaijan and Kenya over the past 20 years and highlighted the potential for cooperation at bilateral and multilateral levels. He said that the parliaments of the two countries cooperate effectively in the international arena, including within the framework of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement.

Speaker Kingi Jeffah stated that the relations between Kenya and Azerbaijan offer favorable opportunities for enhancing cooperation between their legislative bodies.

He noted that both chambers of the Kenyan Parliament are interested in expanding cooperation with Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis.

The Kenyan speaker emphasized the significance of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement, initiated by Azerbaijan, and referred to the outcomes of the network’s fourth conference held last month in Tashkent.

Ambassador Hajiyev emphasized Kenya’s active participation in COP29, hosted by Azerbaijan last year, and noted that close cooperation between the two countries within the framework of the 13th session of the UN World Urban Forum (WUF13) in 2026 and World Environment Day (WED2026) could significantly contribute to global collaboration.

The Senate Chairman emphasized the global relevance of the decisions adopted under Azerbaijan’s leadership at COP29 and expressed confidence that by hosting the prestigious WUF13 in Baku, Azerbaijan would become a hub for global urban planning discussions.

The ambassador also informed the Kenyan speaker about the history and culture of Azerbaijan's statehood, the political activities of the national leader Heydar Aliyev, and the achievements of modern Azerbaijan under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev. The Azerbaijani ambassador also spoke about the Glorious Victory of 2020, the reconstruction, and the large-scale demining work in the post-conflict period. He also provided information about the humanitarian assistance provided by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Azerbaijan International Development Assistance Agency (AIDA) to several educational and medical institutions in Kenya.

The Senate Speaker also noted his familiarity with the activities of the Nizami Ganjavi International Center and emphasized the significance of its peace-promoting initiatives.
