Azerbaijan discusses bilateral cooperation in taxation with Latvia and Montenegro

Orkhan Nazarli, Head of the State Tax Service under the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, met with Baiba Šmite-Roķe, Director General of the State Revenue Service (SRS) of Latvia, on the sidelines of the 29th General Assembly of the Intra-European Organization of Tax Administrations (IOTA), held in Baku.

The meeting focused on the current state and future prospects of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Latvia in the field of taxation. The two sides exchanged views on institutional stability of tax systems, development of digital platforms, tax control, and the enhancement of analytical methodologies.

Orkhan Nazarli emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation with Latvia through the exchange of practical experience and technological innovation, noting that concrete initiatives could be proposed in the future to expand mutual relations between the two tax administrations.

Latvian Director General Baiba Šmite-Roķe provided insight into the innovative tools implemented in Latvia and stated that Azerbaijan’s initiatives in this area are being closely followed. She stressed the importance of establishing bilateral cooperation platforms and maintaining regular expert-level contact.

Both sides reviewed opportunities for practical cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

Later, Orkhan Nazarli met with Sava Laketić, Acting Director of the Tax Administration of Montenegro.

Their meeting focused on exploring opportunities for cooperation between the tax authorities of both countries, identifying areas of mutual interest, and highlighting the significance of exchanging experience in institutional development.

They also exchanged views on improving taxpayer services, implementing digital technologies, and strengthening tax discipline.

Orkhan Nazarli underlined that Azerbaijan’s State Tax Service attaches great importance to mutual cooperation with international partners, especially with institutions at a similar stage of development. He expressed optimism that knowledge and experience sharing with Montenegro would produce beneficial outcomes for both sides in the future.

For his part, Montenegrin Tax Director Sava Laketić shared information on the reforms and modernization processes underway in Montenegro’s Tax Administration and confirmed their readiness to expand cooperation with Azerbaijan in this area.
