Türkiye’s leading newspapers, television channels, news agencies, and websites have extensively covered the tragic events in Yekaterinburg, where Russian law enforcement subjected ethnic Azerbaijanis to violence and torture.

Millions of viewers and readers were informed about Baku’s reaction to the illegal actions of Russian law enforcement, including the cancellation of all cultural events planned with Russian state and private institutions.

Turkish media also highlighted Azerbaijan’s protest note to Russia, featuring expert analyses on the causes of tension between Baku and Moscow.

“Haber Global” television described Russia as a country “historically pursuing a policy of ethnic discrimination” and labeled the actions of OMON in Yekaterinburg as a “scandal that ended the lives of Azerbaijanis.”

The channel quoted a member of the Safarov family, who stated they were treated with brutality and threatened with being sent to the front lines in Ukraine.

“According to lawyers and political scientists, the events in Sverdlovsk Oblast are a result of chauvinism and xenophobia. The Yekaterinburg incidents are not the first of their kind targeting Azerbaijanis in Russia over the past year,” the “Haber Global” report noted.

The report also recalled Russia’s response to the downing of an AZAL passenger plane in Grozny airspace in December 2024.

“Following the AZAL plane crash, anti-Azerbaijani sentiment in Russia intensified. There were attempts to suppress Azerbaijan’s demands for justice and cover up the incident. However, the opposite occurred, as Baku insisted on a more resolute investigation,” the channel emphasized.
