On July 18, Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Milli Majlis (Parliament) of Azerbaijan, met with a delegation led by Hou Kai, Auditor General of the National Audit Office of China and Secretary General of the Asian Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI).
In her remarks, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova highlighted the significance of the 62nd meeting of ASOSAI’s Governing Board and the joint event with the Arab Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ARABOSAI) held in Baku. She emphasized that hosting such international gatherings reflects Azerbaijan’s strong commitment to financial transparency, independent auditing, and international cooperation in the field of public sector accountability.
During the meeting, the Speaker provided the delegation with an overview of the Milli Majlis, including its operating principles, political party representation, gender equality, and the structure of its committees and commissions.
The guests were also informed about Azerbaijan’s liberation of its territories following the Patriotic War and the extensive reconstruction and development efforts currently underway in those regions.
Secretary General Hou Kai expressed his satisfaction with visiting Azerbaijan to participate in the 62nd ASOSAI Governing Board meeting and the joint session with ARABOSAI. He noted that, thanks to Azerbaijan’s initiative, members of both associations had the valuable opportunity to convene at the crossroads of East and West to discuss the advancement of public sector auditing.
He stressed that public sector auditing is a vital element of national oversight systems and plays an indispensable role in the socio-economic development of all countries. Hou Kai also praised Azerbaijan’s contributions to global environmental safety, its preparations to host COP29, and the importance of the issues to be addressed at the conference. He extended his wishes for peace and sustainable development for Azerbaijan.
The meeting concluded with an exchange of views on topics of mutual interest.
