A large Azerbaijani delegation, led by Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev, is on a working visit to Singapore to attend the 30th Annual Conference and General Meeting of the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP).
The conference, focused on the evolving role of prosecutors and the management of criminal justice systems, featured discussions on pressing issues such as the application of modern information and communication technologies, opportunities for artificial intelligence, prosecutorial experience in combating cybercrime, the use of digital evidence in criminal proceedings, and the implementation of joint initiatives to address emerging challenges.
At the opening ceremony, which marked the 30th anniversary of the IAP and brought together prosecutors from around the world, speeches were delivered by Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Attorney-General Lucien Wong, and Juan Bautista Mahiques, IAP President and Attorney General of the Public Prosecution Service of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires. The leadership of IAP also recalled last year’s 29th Annual Conference held in Baku, noting it as a landmark event in the association’s history with record participation.
During the visit, Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev met with Singapore’s Attorney-General Lucien Wong. He provided an overview of Azerbaijan’s systematic anti-corruption efforts under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, highlighting the scope and impact of comprehensive reforms, and expressed interest in learning from Singapore’s successful practices. The sides also discussed preventing modern forms of crime, enhancing cooperation through a legal framework, and capacity building and training of personnel.
On the sidelines of the event, Kamran Aliyev held bilateral meetings with the Prosecutors General of the Netherlands, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Estonia, Slovenia, Liechtenstein, Türkiye, Timor-Leste, and Oman, as well as with China’s Deputy Prosecutor. The discussions focused on issues including extradition, legal assistance in criminal cases, and other areas of mutual cooperation.
Ramil Rzayev, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Indonesia, also attended the event. The Azerbaijani delegation will continue meetings with heads of prosecution authorities from other countries to further expand cooperation opportunities.
