Milli Majlis Speaker: Inter-Parliamentary Union strengthens voices in global governance

Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova addressed the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, highlighting rising global uncertainty, ongoing conflicts, and widening inequalities that threaten peace and justice.

She stressed the need for urgent action on climate change and called for stronger commitment to multilateralism and international law.

Gafarova noted that the Inter-Parliamentary Union plays an important role in ensuring parliamentary voices are heard more strongly in global governance. She emphasized that lawmakers should promote peace, uphold justice, and reflect the interests of future generations.

The speaker also highlighted the importance of youth participation, noting Azerbaijan’s youth-focused policies, legislative framework, and programs supporting education, employment, and engagement in public administration. She underlined that empowering young people contributes to resilience, innovation, and peace, and pointed to progress in dialogue in the South Caucasus, stressing the role of parliamentary diplomacy in building trust.

She concluded by calling for cooperation, dialogue, and multilateralism to build a more peaceful and just world.
