A panel discussion titled “The Silk Road of the Word: Azerbaijan’s Book Ecosystem” was held on June 19 at the presentation hall of the Beijing International Book Fair (BIBF), focusing on Azerbaijani book culture.
The event was jointly organized by the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan and the Embassy of Azerbaijan in China.
Dedicated to the international promotion of Azerbaijani literature, its publishing potential, and opportunities for cultural cooperation with China, the panel featured prominent Azerbaijani literary figures. Among the participants were Elchin Huseynbeyli, Secretary of the Writers' Union of Azerbaijan; poet and essayist Gismet; Rafig Ismayilov, Director of the publishing company “Altun Kitab”; and Tural Akhundov, Director of the “Tahsil” publishing house.
The discussion explored the historical development of Azerbaijani literature, current trends in book publishing, the significance of literary translation, and strategies for engaging younger readers. Speakers emphasized the importance of such events in promoting Azerbaijan’s literary heritage in China and fostering collaborative publishing efforts.
The panel also highlighted the role of books as a cultural bridge in strengthening the friendship between the Azerbaijani and Chinese peoples and enhancing intercultural dialogue. Several proposals for future cooperation were put forward.
The event concluded with a Q&A session, during which participants exchanged views on topics of mutual interest.
