Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population hosted a meeting with a delegation led by Anna Rose Bordon, Head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Mission in Azerbaijan.

Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Population Anar Aliyev highlighted the achievements of social reforms implemented in the country in recent years. He emphasized that, in line with the instructions of President Ilham Aliyev, five social reform packages carried out over the past seven years have led to substantial increases in social payments, including pensions.

“Under the new order of the head of state, pensions have been indexed and increased by an additional 9.3 percent since the beginning of this year, and steps have been taken to apply more humane approaches in the pension provision system,” Minister Anar Aliyev noted.

The minister also spoke about the expansion of digital services and the implementation of proactive appointment mechanisms in the social security sector in recent years.

Providing insights into labor market development trends, Anar Aliyev highlighted the year-on-year growth in the number of employment contracts, the implementation of active employment programs, as well as efforts to prepare and approve professional and qualification standards. He also underlined recent innovations in labor legislation, measures to increase women’s employment opportunities, and projects aimed at supporting youth employment.

The sides exchanged views on pension reforms in Azerbaijan and recent developments in the labor market.

Following the meeting, the IMF delegation delivered a presentation on an analysis of Azerbaijan’s labor market during a session attended by Rashad Mustafayev, Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Population.
