On June 25, Elnur Mammadov, Azerbaijan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Magdalena Grono, Special Representative of the European Union (EU) for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia.
The meeting focused on the current state and development of Azerbaijan-EU relations, as well as topical issues on the regional agenda.
The officials noted that the existing bilateral political dialogue, reciprocal visits, and intensive contacts contribute significantly to strengthening bilateral ties. In this regard, they stressed the importance of the visit of President of the European Council António Costa to Azerbaijan this year in fostering mutual understanding and advancing the bilateral cooperation agenda.
The meeting reviewed the current state of bilateral cooperation in the political, economic, transport, communications, and other fields, as well as the implementation of the agreements reached between the sides.
Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov briefed the EU official on the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization process and the latest developments related to the peace agenda. The sides emphasized the importance of making effective use of existing opportunities, fulfilling commitments in a timely manner, and further strengthening confidence-building measures between the two countries to ensure the successful conclusion of the peace process.
The officials also highlighted the importance of continuing cooperation within international organizations, as well as maintaining the existing dialogue and consultations between Azerbaijan and the EU on issues of mutual interest.
The meeting also addressed other topical regional and international issues of mutual concern.
