Germany’s Duisburg hosts opening ceremony of 2025 FISU World University Games

The opening ceremony of the 32nd World University Games of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) was held at the Schauinsland-Reisen Arena in Duisburg, Rhine-Ruhr, Germany.

Addressing the event, Hendrik Wüst, Minister-President of the North Rhine-Westphalia, wished success to the participants.

The ceremony proceeded with a vibrant parade of the athletes. Gymnast Laman Alimuradova and taekwondo fighter Eltaj Gafarov served as flagbearers for Team Azerbaijan.

A message of peace was also delivered during the ceremony.

Leonz Eder, FISU President, underscored the importance of the Games.

The event concluded with the artistic program.

The World University Games will be held across 6 cities, namely Berlin, Bochum, Essen, Duisburg, Mülheim, and Hagen. The Team Azerbaijan include 71 athletes, competing across 12 disciplines, including athletics, rowing, badminton, artistic gymnastics, judo, fencing, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, beach volleyball, archery, swimming. The games will run until July 27.
