On June 17, Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov held a phone conversation with United Kingdom’s Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs David Lammy.
During the call, the two sides discussed bilateral cooperation, the current regional situation arising from the Israel-Iran confrontation, and the prospects for the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Minister Lammy extended his congratulations on the occasion of Azerbaijan’s National Salvation Day and expressed appreciation for the greetings sent on the occasion of the United Kingdom’s national holiday — the King’s Birthday. He also conveyed gratitude for the letter of condolence sent by President Ilham Aliyev following the tragic crash of an Air India passenger plane near Ahmedabad, which claimed the lives of British citizens.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, in turn, thanked his counterpart for the congratulations and conveyed his own condolences.
Both sides expressed serious concern over the security situation in the region caused by the Israel-Iran conflict and stressed the importance of continued diplomatic engagement and dialogue to prevent further escalation.
The ministers also exchanged views on other matters of mutual interest.
