Teymur Musayev, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Health, met with a delegation from the Vatican led by Titsiano Onesti President of Bambino Gesù Pediatric Hospital.
During the meeting, the parties discussed expanding cooperation with the Vatican in healthcare and pediatrics, as well as joint initiatives aimed at protecting children's health.
Minister of Health Teymur Musayev said that thanks to the successful foreign policy implemented under the leadership of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, relations between Azerbaijan and the Vatican are developing at a high level. The minister noted that the special importance attached by the head of state to humanitarian and intercultural dialogue makes a significant contribution to further strengthening ties between the two countries.
Emphasizing the special importance of the projects implemented by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation under the leadership of First Vice-President of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva toward developing relations with the Vatican, Teymur Musayev noted: “At the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, a number of historical and religious monuments in the Vatican have been restored, and humanitarian cooperation has been successfully developed.”
The minister pointed out that Azerbaijan’s healthcare system has undergone significant development in recent years as a result of large-scale reforms and state programs: “Modern medical infrastructure has been established in the country, new hospitals and specialized medical centers have been commissioned, and the implementation of digital healthcare solutions has been expanded. In particular, important achievements have been made in the fields of pediatrics, thalassemia, and maternal and child health.”
Teymur Musayev also mentioned that the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Ministry of Health of Azerbaijan, and Bambino Gesù Pediatric Hospital further strengthens cooperation between the parties: “Within the framework of the memorandum, the parties plan to carry out exchanges of experience in pediatrics, implement joint scientific research projects, provide professional training for medical personnel, and develop child healthcare services in Azerbaijan. Cooperation with a world-renowned and prestigious medical institution such as Bambino Gesù Pediatric Hospital will make a significant contribution to the development of pediatric services in Azerbaijan.”
Titsiano Onesti commended the achievements attained in Azerbaijan’s healthcare sector. He particularly emphasized that Azerbaijan’s experience in the management of thalassemia and other hereditary diseases is of considerable interest, noting that the signed Memorandum would provide a solid foundation for the successful implementation of joint initiatives in the future.
As part of the visit, the delegation is scheduled to hold meetings at the K. Farajov Scientific Research Institute of Pediatrics, the National Hematology and Transfusiology Center, the Scientific Research Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Azerbaijan Medical University.
