Armenians committed atrocities against Azerbaijanis in the Caucasus, chairman of the Turkish Historical Society, Professor Yuksel Ozgen, said in an interview with Report after the panel discussion "Armenian atrocities against Turkic people in the South Caucasus and Anatolia" in Ankara, Report informs.
He said that Armenians will not be able to change historical facts by attributing the massacres and atrocities they committed to the Turkic people, and that their accusations have no basis.
The annual statements by Armenians about the so-called genocide on April 24 are aimed at hiding the crimes they have committed throughout history: "Türkiye has always advocated the creation of a joint commission, the opening of archives to reveal the real historical facts. But the opposite side does not want this proposal to be implemented."
Ozgen noted that information about the atrocities committed by Armenians against Turks during the First World War and similar crimes has been collected from all the world's archives: "We have this information. The events are also reflected in the archival documents of the Ottoman Empire period. At the beginning of the last century, they killed not only Ottoman soldiers, but also civilians - women, old people, children, turning Turkish villages in Erzurum, Kars, Van, Igdir and the surrounding areas into ruins. Armed groups of Armenians committed the same atrocities against our Azerbaijani brothers in the Caucasus, trying to Armenize the region. Although all this was the result of the "dream of Greater Armenia", the facts we have uncovered will not allow these unrealistic plans to come true."
